Kavitha Punniyamurthi is an award-winning children's writer, illustrator and editor.
'Lunchtime Bully' reached the Top 10 and won a Consolation Prize in the 16th Tinkle Original Story Competition (2011). 'Junk Attack!' won a Special Mention in the Fiction for Children Competition (2011) conducted by Unisun Publications, India. The book is scheduled for release in early 2012.
Kavitha is the author and illustrator of 'Lucy’s Purple Pullover', a picture book published by Guardian Angel Publishing (U.S.A).

Kavitha has also written and illustrated two picture eBooks, 'Kattumaram’s Midnight Adventure' and 'Cat and Mouse in Partnership' published by Shared Books Ltd. (Canada) and an audio picture eBook, 'The Tiger, the Brahmin and the Fox' published by My Story Town LLC (U.S.A).
Kavitha has been writing since she was nine years old. A middle-grade novel she wrote when she was twelve was serialised in a popular children's magazine in India. Her work has appeared in international magazines such as Children’s Hood, Skive Magazine, TheWriter’s Ezine and Mind Fire Renewed and in Indian magazines for children such as Gokulam and Tinkle.
She worked as a sub-editor with an international print journal till early 2010. She has several years' experience in critiquing and editing manuscripts.
Kavitha specializes in writing for children of ages 4-12. Her current projects include picture books (fiction and non-fiction), comic book scripts, short stories and middle-grade novels.
On why she writes for children, Kavitha says, “The response that a writer/illustrator gets from children is without bias and straight-from-the-heart. What drives me is the sense of fulfilment that I draw from watching my stories and pictures light up a child’s eyes, and bring forth a smile...or a giggle...or a guffaw…!”
